PKL Healthcare provided the 1,000m2 modular single bed ward facility to the hospitals Redevelopment Team on a 5-year hire.
The modular single bed ward was partly funded by the Department of Health and will be used for research, with the findings determining the single room layout the Trust use when they rebuild Hillingdon Hospital. The new hospital will be 100% single rooms
The 24-bed facility is split into three wings of 8 single en-suite rooms. The modular single rooms in each wing are designed differently to allow the hospital to evaluate the performance of 100% single room facilities and determine which layout is the most functional from a patient, treatment and cost point of view.
The modules for the facility were specifically designed for the scheme to ensure the single rooms fit within the modules. This resulted in some modules being far wider than the standard healthcare module but allowed PKL Healthcare to maximise off-site construction opportunities and complete the maximum amount of fit out in the factory. This reduced the on-site disruption on a hospital where parking and available space is very restricted.
The modular single bed ward was hired to the Trust for 5-years, during this time PKL Healthcare will provide all necessary monitoring and maintenance to the facility included planned service visits for major items of mechanical and electrical plant. At the end of the hire period PKL Healthcare will remove the facility freeing up the site for the Trust to develop as part of their main development plans.
