PKL Healthcare completed the temporary birthing unit at an NHS hospital on the outskirts of London. The birthing unit was designed to create a patient environment, which felt more like a luxury hotel than a hospital.
The design approach on the scheme was to design a temporary birthing unit, which could create a patient environment, which felt like a home away from home and was more like a luxury hotel than a hospital.
The internal colour schemes were chosen to give a calming and peaceful atmosphere with feature lighting and large windows to maximise the amount of natural light. This all helps to make a stressful time for patients as relaxing as possible.
Two of the birthing rooms had full sized birthing pools as well as beds to allow the expecting mother's to choose alternative birthing methods.
PKL Healthcare were responsible for the full turnkey healthcare building, including healthcare design, off-site construction, hospital installation, foundations, services diversions, external landscaping and monitoring and maintenance.
