PKL Healthcare were employed through OGC Buying Solutions to provide two temporary day surgery theatres, a 6-bed recovery area and 22-bed temporary ward for an 18-month hire contract.
As well as providing the modular healthcare building, PKL Healthcare took on the enabling package into their scope of works, which, due to the location, included a mixture of a steel podium over a lower ground floor plant area, re-enforced concrete columns and traditional pad foundations.
The 2-storey facility is linked into the existing hospital on both floors. It features a 22-bed modular ward on the ground floor split into four 5 and 6-bed sections and supported by ancillary utility areas. On the first floor are two separate temporary day surgery theatres and a 6-bed 1st stage recovery area. The plant rooms housing the M&E installations to service the facility are on top of the 2nd storey accessible from the existing hospital rooftop. A bed lift was also installed to allow easy access between levels without the need to go through the existing hospital building.
